Restoration of 1948 Bentley Wedding Car
Back to Restoration Projects
This beautiful car is now in the final stages of restoration. The body shell has returned from the painter and we are able to refit all the new brightwork and interior. The boot has been lined and carpeted; the next big job is to install the head lining. I think this is the single most tedious job on a restoration. It is fixed with gimp pins (really tiny tacks) at 1 inch centres all around the edge as well as on the cross rails on the roof. You have to temporarily pin it ,and keep tensioning it as you go, so that you don't end up with a saggy headlining. The bit that you don't see in the finished car is all the wadding and padding that goes up first ,and the cotton calico which the roof is lined with before the final headlining goes up - that is an awful lot of tacks!
