A Truly 'White Wedding' for Gemma and James
We've had snow on and off for three weeks now and have managed to get the cars out to all the weddings for December, but another eight inches of snow on top of what we already had caused us great concern for our first wedding this year. We had to get a Bentley up to Harome, right up on the Moors, for Gemma and James's wedding and were very worried that we may not get through with car.
However, the old Bentleys weight almost two and a half tons and have pretty narrow tyres by today's standards. This creates a very high pressure onto the ground from the tyres and they really bite into the snow. In fact the cars rarely slide, gripping much better than a modern car. Couple this with a particularly fine automatic transmission and you can pull away very gently avoiding wheel spin. If you use the throttle gently as well the gearbox will short-shift, again avoiding wheel spin. In fact, the cars turned out to be absolutely brilliant in this weather, the greatest worries being the salt damage or someone in a modern car sliding into the back of you!
Suffice to say, we got there, although it took a little longer than usual! The pictures of the wedding are in the Brides Scrapbook with pictures of the journey (how 'Strictly' is that?) below.
Picures taken with my 'point and squirt' camera pending some rather more professional pictures from the photographer.
